Today, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voluntarily recalled more than 12 million specialty Shrek the Third glasses being sold at McDonald’s locations nationwide. It was discovered that the paint on the glasses contains cadmium, which is toxic. The CPSC warns that “long-term exposure to cadmium can cause adverse health effects.”
If you own one or more of the glasses, you should stop using them immediately and dispose of them. The cadmium on the glasses could rub off on your hand and then be transferred into the body if you put your hands into your mouth or rub your eye before washing them
Exposure to cadmium has been linked to bone softening and kidney, lung and intestinal problems.
All designs of McDonald’s Shrek the Third have been recalled and should be discarded immediately.
