If you thought the Chanel hula hoop bag was crazy, wait until you see the new trend has Karl Lagerfeld started. When Lagerfeld sent these lego-inspired clutches down the runway for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2013 show, he started a chain reaction. High and low-end designers are coming out with their own versions of Lego-inspired bags. And yes, we mean the plastic toy blocks. Despite the fact buckets of lego can be purchased at garage sales across America, these handbags are far from cheap. This Les Petits Joueurs Lego Mondrian Suede Clutch retails at $952. You can also get your very own Lego Birkin bag ($552) from Aga Bags (hey, it’s still way cheaper than an actual Birkin). The website also sells smaller Lego clutches for around $200 each.
This trend personally reminds me of the horrible duct tape purses I used to make in middle school. However, my brother does have a ton of old Legos in the basement. Maybe I should start up the old handmade purse business again…
