A Makeup Artist Shares The Flattering 'Crease-Free' Concealer Hacks To Make Mature Skin Look Years Younger & Never Cakey Again

Achieving a smooth, youthful look with concealer can be challenging for mature skin, but the right techniques can make all the difference. Mature skin often requires special care with concealer, as it can easily settle into fine lines or appear cakey. However, the right techniques can brighten the complexion, smooth imperfections, and create a more youthful appearance.

Angie Schmitt, a popular makeup artist, has shared a video showcasing how to apply concealer smoothly and create a long-lasting everyday makeup look. The video is engaging and enlightening, providing solutions for preventing concealer from settling into creases or emphasizing fine lines and wrinkles on mature skin.

“A lot of times we get into a makeup rut where we’re used to applying our makeup the exact same way since we were younger,” she acknowledged in the video. “Now that our skin is older, we haven’t adjusted everything, and so you need to adjust placement and how many layers you put on and things like that,” she added. “Then, you can have more success with your concealer.” Schmitt then explained that the following tips should follow skin prep steps like moisturizer and sunscreen. Let’s dive into two of her tips!

1. Set Your Concealer With Mineral Matte Powder

One step Schmitt shares in her video is setting her under-eye concealer. "This will definitely help it to stay out of your wrinkles," she notes, adding that "your concealer is liquid, and it takes a while to dry. As it dries, it can move around and migrate into your wrinkles, so you really want to set [with mineral matte powder] before your skin has a chance to start moving and making the makeup migrate into your wrinkles."

"I sprinkle a little bit of the powder out into the cap, I use a brush, pick up a little bit, I tap it off onto the cap, and then starting at the inner corner, I just press the brush into the concealer," she reveals. "I make sure that I don't press in towards my nose. I kind of lay it to the side of my nose and then make sure that I press with a little bit of an outward pull," she goes on.

"I'm not really pulling on my skin; I'm just making sure that when I press, I'm not causing my skin to bunch up towards the inner corner," she concludes. She then gives viewers a close-up glimpse at her final concealer look and shows off how "smooth, nice, beautiful, and crease-free" it looked! (We're definitely trying this hack this winter!)

2. Place A 'Wedge Shape' Of Concealer At Your Eye's Inner Corner And Blend With A Brush

Placement of your concealer, Schmitt emphasizes, is very important. "I place a little wedge shape of concealer at the inner corner where most of my darkness is that I want to conceal, and I don't put any directly under my eye," she says. "I do put a little bit out at the outer corner to lift and brighten," she adds. She then notes that she has recently "switched from applying concealer" with her finger.

"Now, I apply it with a [specially designed] concealer brush in a consistent and smooth way," she explains, because when you're tapping it on with your finger, "it does remove some of the concealer, and it gives you much more of a chunky application."

When it comes to choosing a brush, Schmitt recommends getting one that "keeps the bulk of the concealer in the inner corner and that feathers out the smallest amount of concealer where your crow's feet and most of your wrinkles are. She says that she gets a "really thin coating near the outer corner of the eye and gets most of it concentrated at the inner corner."

By tryin out these targeted concealer hacks designed for mature skin, you can achieve a crease-free, natural look that enhances your features and helps you look years younger!
