Leather jackets have always been a fall fashion staple, be it the conventional black color or other variations such as brown or even bolder hues like red or green, among others.
As expected, now that the weather is slowly changing, we are seeing more style-savvy fashionistas swap their denim jackets and other lighter pieces of outerwear for heavier pieces with heavier fabrics – and leather jackets fit that bill perfectly! Gigi Hadid, sister Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber are just three of the many trend-setting celebs who have rocked leather jackets in the past, and who would be perfect to take sartorial inspiration from this fall season. Gigi Hadid
The 28-year-old Guest in Residence founder gave us one of our favorite leather jacket looks back in September 2021, when she attended the Daily Front Row Annual Fashion Media Awards in New York. She proved that leather jackets can be incredibly chic and sophisticated, as she walked the red carpet in a sleek black Givenchy leather blazer – with nothing underneath! – teamed with an asymmetric black skirt, black heels, and a braided hairstyle, as well as fierce black eyeliner to amplify the drama!
The mom-of-one also made a case for the colored leather jacket earlier this year too, when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in an 80s-inspired dark green belted, hooded jacket from the Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2023 Couture collection. She teamed it with matching skin-tight dark green leather pants and heeled boots, and the outfit has lived rent-free in our minds ever since!
Hailey Bieber
The 26-year-old Rhode founder demonstrated how to hold onto summer by pairing a key summer item with autumnal accessories. And in her case, it was adding a leather jacket and some knee-high boots to an oversized white MM6 Maison Margiela tee!
The Victoria's Secret model has seemingly always been a fan of the no pants trend, and previously rocked her long white luxury T-shirt, worn as a dress, with a black leather jacket and some knee-high Jacquemus boots, which we assume were to help keep out the chill. She kept her look effortless by wearing her then blonde hair in a messy updo, and added some black sunglasses and a black crossbody bag worn on her shoulder.
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid has given us so many great leather jacket looks over the years, we couldn’t possibly choose just one! Back in February 2020, after strutting her stuff on the New York Fashion Week runways, the 26-year-old trend-setter flaunted her super-toned abs in a casual, effortless, and sexy all-rolled-into-one look, consisting of low-rise black pants, an ab-baring crop top, and a longline orange leather jacket. She paired her look with Dr Marten boots and wore her hair in a sleek updo, which allowed her to show off her statement drop earrings.
Those who aren’t feeling as brave as Bella and might not want to bare their abs in the fall season have another look to be inspired by – and it's a lot more smart/casual than the previous one, which makes it the perfect day-to-night look that will work for almost all occasions! Bella made a case for leather on leather when she was snapped leaving the Bulgari store in Paris back in 2018, wearing Lamarque leather jeans with a black leather jacket. She kept out the chill in a high-necked Wolford Colorado bodysuit, and added some glamour by way of some Prada slingback heels. She added a splash of color with a red Bulgari Serpenti flap cover bag, which we think tied the whole look together perfectly.
